Now the revolutionary site has decided to pay tribute it users by hosting the first ever YouTube Awards. The award ceremony will honour the most-viewed YouTube videos over the past year based on global music video views and shares.
Eminem and Lady Gaga have been earmarked as the headline acts at the ceremony that will take place in New York on 3 November.
