Vanessa Hudgens and Austin Butler's recent Valentine's Day vacation has taken a dramatic turn.

E! News can confirm the Hollywood couple has sparked a criminal investigation after a vandalized rock near the Coconino National Forest showed up on Vanessa's Instagram.
It all started when the High School Musical alumna shared a photo online that featured the pair's names in a heart carved into a rock. While the picture has since been deleted, police were informed of the image and have begun looking into the matter.
According to TMZ,  there's a federal law that prohibits anyone from "damaging natural surfaces or property of the United States."
Because it's an ongoing investigation, no charges have been filed for either party.
If charged, authorities told E! News that both Vanessa and Austin could face a misdemeanor. A judge would later decide their punishment that could be a fine up to $5,000 or six months in jail.
Putting legal drama aside, the Hollywood pair appeared to have a nice getaway or at least until authorities got involved.
In several Instagram posts, the couple posed for pictures while enjoying hikes around the national forest. "#sedonadreams with @austinbutler ❤," the actresswrote on social media after celebrating Galentine's Day with sister Stella Hudgens.
The getaway also comes just weeks after Vanessa wowed audiences with her portrayal of Rizzo on the live musical Grease: Live. To say months and months of rehearsals paid off may just be an understatement.
"I can't believe @gogrease is OVER! Grand opening and grand closing. Thank you to everyone who watched and supported me last night," she shared after the pop culture event. "Doing #greaselive was one of the most incredible experiences and I'm so glad you guys liked it as much as I did. Till next time Rizz..."
