The legendary rocker Lou Reed dies at age 71

Update: The agent Lou Reed , Andrew Wylie , said in a statement: "I regret to confirm that Lou Reed died of complications following a liver transplant."

The music legend, Lou Reed, died Sunday, Oct. 27, according to Rolling Stone . He was 71.
The cause of death has not yet been revealed, but it had undergone a liver transplant in May, according to the magazine.
The New Yorker by birth, one of the pioneers of rock music, is best known for being a founding member of The Velvet Underground in the late 60s and his illustrious career then spread over nearly three decades .
The band released four albums together, and he even drew the attention 'of Andy Warhol . Reed wrote and sang several songs with his legendary group, "Heroin," "Sister Ray," "Sweet Jane" and "Rock and Roll".
Reed left the group in 1970 to launch a solo career. His second album, Transformer, produced by David Bowie , has strengthened its status on the rock scene.

Several albums followed: Coney Island Baby  in 1976, Street Hassle  in 1978,  The Blue Mask  in 1982,  New York  in 1989 and The Raven  in 2003, the latter being inspired by his fascination with the poet Edgar Allan Poe . 
His latest album rock mainstream Lulu , was released in 2011, in collaboration withMetallica .
He leaves behind his wife, artist and musician Laurie Anderson .
"All these years, I always thought that if we took it like a book, so we got a great American novel, each representing a chapter title," Has he told Rolling Stone  in 1987. "They are listed in chronological order. If you take all that and you listen in order, you have my great American novel."
