Half Na ked Women Protest Gov. Yero’s Visit To Sanga

Governor Mukhtar Yero of Kaduna State was on Monday given a shocking reception by the women of Sanga Local Government Area of the state while reacting to the series of killings recorded in the area.

Protesting women in Southern Kaduna.....

The governor, who paid a visit to the ‘killing field’ in the troubled Southern Kaduna region months after the tragedy that befell the people, sparked a protest from angry women, who marched naked and accused governor Yero of negligence and poor leadership.
This was made known by Barrister Sunday Ugah, an indigene of Sanga local government, residing in the United States, but currently in Nigeria in an e-mail sent to SaharaReporters.

Ugah, who sent pictures and details of Yero’s visit to Fadan Karshi, a community where gunmen mercilessly killed over 40 people, also revealed that attempts from prominent politicians to halt the protest proved abortive, as the protesting women alleged that the governor was on a political campaign and not a condolence visit.
Below are some excerpts from the e-mail:
“It is absolute nonsense that, since March to date, about 1,000 people have been killed in Southern Kaduna. [The governor] never came until today, in the name of last week killings, but we all know it is for political reasons. He came in company of hundreds of security personnel. We have no business with his politics, but we will speak in the ballot.

“Over 200 were killed in March in Kaura local government, he refused to go there. The same thing happened in June here in Sanga, over 200 were killed. Our parents protested almost naked and we told him he is not a leader but a combination of deceit and lies.
“Next month we will take our case to Chatham House in London, where we will address the world of the genocide going on in our villages, and how representatives from the Senate down to state assembly have failed us completely.

“We are not docile, we are documenting everything, the senator is only bothered about her re-election like the governor, the same for all the politicians. And the world will hear us, they are killing us like animals and none of them can raise a voice because of vested interests”the mail read.
Meanwhile, Governor Yero on September 4, 2014, in a reaction to the incessant attacks by the dreaded Boko Haram sect in the Northern part of Nigeria, lamented that life has become so cheap in the North.

Sanga has been under continuous attacks from suspected Fulani herdsmen. It would be recalled that death toll of Kaduna genocide reportedly hit 123 people by June 24, 2014. As part of efforts to curb the menace, a 24-hour curfew had earlier been imposed by Sanga local government Chairman, Emmanuel Adamau.
